To Africa

So, now christmas comes and my mind wanders. Africa has probably got the most potential as a continent with resources and opportunities but it also expresses serious troubles and weaknesses…

I have been offered an irresistible offer. To go to mozambique and South Africa for new year and the whole of January. Taking the plane has been more and more risky (as planes grow older and pollution gets higher) I had in mind of going to africa some time next year but by other means such as boat, bike, foot and horse… Now I’ll be taking the plane instead…….

I would therefore like to compensate this moral infraction by getting involved and doing some sort of charity work once down there. What are the options? I suppost I’ll have to discover myself but if anyone does read this and has an idea, please leave me a message.

My education (cell biology) does not really suit this kind of activity but I have been thinking of a reconversion into ecology and conservation biology since those are the fields that (urgently) need to be developped if we want to give a world as beautiful as the one we have lived in to our children.

Things such as the constant, intensive pumping and burning of fossil fuels bring tears to my eyes  (pussy yeah…). Anyways, this trip will also enable me to see my granparents which I havent seen in ages (6-7 years) and my cousins.

Hoping that I find constructive activities over there and discover myself and others in a new way.

Also hoping that my girlfriend joins me in this adventure…

Proof of decline is evident, how do we react?

I have just landed on this flash animation of the evolution of unemployment rates throughout America during the last two years (based on the bureau of labour statistics) showing a massive increase in this rate throughout the country.   Check it out its scary!

Since this is the worst crisis since the great depression (and certainly far worse than the “dirty thirties”) how are we supposed to react to this information, what are our choices and why is our government not bringing up the solutions that we entrust him to provide us?

Here we are…
